BOISE -- Some Idaho Republicans are urging lawmakers not to create a state-based health insurance exchange program.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that Idaho GOP Central Committee members voted in opposition to the state-based exchange during the committee's winter meeting Saturday.

That offer would go against what Governor Butch Otter recommended last month. But even before that vote, the Governor said his decision allows the state to have a say in how the exchange is created.

I see nothing wrong, or nothing liberal, or maybe even nothing conservative about preserving all of our options, Otter said during a news conference Friday.

The committee's recommendation will be passed on to Idaho lawmakers, who will have the option to act on it.
