BOISE -- A twist in the frightening story of a violent mugging in southeast Boise on Sunday has police connecting a teen assault victim with her alleged attacker.
Boise Police arrested 19-year-old Cameron Moon from Boise on Sunday evening after witnesses reported seeing him steal a teenage girl's backpack, and then cut her on the arm with a knife during a struggle.
Police say the attack happened just before 6 p.m near the 1500 block of Dundee Street.
In a late-night update, police spokeswoman Lynn Hightower said Moon apparently knew his victim, but that's all the information they've released connecting the two.
The name of the teen who was assaulted has not been released.
The teenager fights back
Police say despite her injuries, the teenage victim chased Moon -- who was riding a bike -- apparently trying to get her backpack back. They say Moon then punched the teen in the face and rode away, turning north on S. Manitou Avenue toward Manitou Park.
At that time, another citizen called 911, reporting that he'd just seen the suspect throw a knife on the ground near a front yard.
Officers chased 19-year-old Moon on foot
Police arriving on scene reportedly saw a man who matched the suspect's description drop a bike in a yard and jump over a fence. At this time, officers began chasing the man through the back yards of several homes.
The chase ended in nearby Manitou Park, which police say was crowded with families.
Officers say once out in the open, the man quickly surrendered and was arrested. They say citizens who had witnessed the robbery, battery, and the chase helped positively identify him as Moon.
A police dog also tracked Moon's scent from Manitou park back to the scene of the crime.
During the resulting investigation, detectives also found Moon's t-shirt and cell phone -- items they say he threw away while running from officers.
Moon was taken to the Ada County Jail and booked on two felony charges.
The teen involved in the attack was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
Bail set at $125,000
Cameron Moon was arraigned in Ada County court Monday afternoon.
He was formally charged with one count of robbery and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
An Ada County judge set Moon's bond at $125,000, and orderedMoon to have no contact with the victim.
Moon's preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 14.
