JEROME, Idaho Jerome residents are planning a gathering to honor a soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Organizer Becky Hurd says community members will bring yellow ribbons to Jerome City Park Thursday evening to show support for Army Sgt. Daniel J. Brown's family and other military families.

The 27-year-old Brown died Saturday in Kandahar province after enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division in Fort Carson, Colo.

The Times-News reports that no speakers are scheduled for Thursday's gathering. Organizer plan to walk around Jerome, posting the yellow ribbons

Funeral services are scheduled for April 7 at the College of Southern Idaho gymnasium.
