CALDWELL -- Departed Canyon County Prosecutor John Bujak left office owing the county more than $300,000, and that's left the officials who remain scrambling to fill the resulting budget hole.
Bujak resigned Sept. 30 and has since sought bankruptcy protection.
The county says he owes about $302,000 in revenues from his work providing the city of Nampa with prosecution services.
It's that gap the county is now trying to make up, as officials concede payments from Bujak, if they come, could take a long time.
Commissioner Steve Rule told the Idaho Press-Tribune that the county is considering slashing the prosecuting attorney's office budget by $150,000 in each of the next two years but that no official decision has been made.
