A 24-year-old Boise man was arrested Thursday after sheriff's officials say he used a social media site in an attempt to convince a 13-year-old girl to have sex with him.
The person communicating with Matthew James Remm over Facebook turned out to be a detective with the Ada County Sheriff's Office. The investigation started in May, and sheriff's officials say the suspect's online conversations with the girl quickly turned sexual, even after he learned her age.
Remm was taken into custody after he tried to meet the girl in a neighborhood near Milwaukee and Northview streets.
When Remm spotted law enforcement officers in the parking lot where the two were supposed to meet up, officials said, he tried to run. Deputies say they spotted him throwing several condoms from a backpack as he fled. The deputies caught up to Remm and arrested him.
He has been charged with felony enticement of children over the internet, and is currently being held in the Ada County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond. If convicted, Remm could face up to 15 years in prison and be required to register as a sex offender.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 27.
