BOISE -- Boise Police Department announced the name of their newest K9 member on Wednesday, and introduced the pup to his war-hero namesake.
The dog's name will be Jackson, in behalf of local war hero Arthur Junior Jackson.
Two students in the area submitted the idea of using Jackson's name to BPD's Name our New K9 Contest, and won.
Jackson is a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient for taking initiative when fellow troops were surrounded by Japanese soldiers.
Both student contest winners were each awarded $100. But instead of keeping the prize money, they decided to donate it all to the Wyakin Warrior Foundation, a local organization that helps wounded veterans.
BPD says it takes a special kind of high energy dog keep up with the work they do. They will use 'Art Jackson,' the dog, for drug detection.
