ONTARIO, Ore. -- Ontario police say a hit-and-run driver seriously injured an 81-year-old woman.

Police Chief Mark Alexander says the woman was driving a motorized scooter from a grocery store to her home Monday when she was hit by a Chevy Astro van traveling the same direction. The impact sent the woman underneath a parked car.

She suffered some broken bones and was taken to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.

Police located the suspect's van about an hour after the accident and identified the driver.

Alexander says 49-year-old Elmer Harp came in for questioning Wednesday and was arrested for failing perform the duties of a driver in an accident. He did not report the crash or try to give aid to the injured woman. Harp also has a suspended driver's license.

He was booked into the Malheur County Jail.
