MOSCOW, Idaho -- The Idaho Vandals are gearing up for their annual Silver and Gold game next Saturday.
This Saturday, they completed their third scrimmage of spring training.
Coach Robb Akey said the team showed more offensive punch but still had the defensive surge that made him happy. Akey is also using the scrimmages and spring training to focus on individual development.
Sam Tupua recovered Princeton McCarty’s fumble scored a 5 yard touchdown.
Offense ended up with three field goals on the leg of Trey Farquhar from 32, 51 and 41 yards. Troy Vital picked up another touchdown with a 1 yard run before another field goal by Farquhar, this one from 45 yards.
Quarterback Brian Reader led the passing team with 8 out of 17 completions for 97 yards.
Tight end Michael LaGrone and receiver Preston Davis were the rushing leaders with three catches each. LaGrone picked up 56 yards with his while Davis racked up 24 yards.
On the defense, senior Michael Cosgrove picked up two sacks and three tackles for loss. Benson Mayowa also grabbed two sacks and had six tackles.
Trey Williams had only interception.
The Vandals’ final week of spring practice includes sessions on Tuesday and Thursday and the Silver and Gold Game Saturday at 10 a.m.
