INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Nampa native Davey Hamilton will take part in his 11th Indy 500, and even though his team has changed a few times over the years, he has always raced with Idaho on his mind.
"Idaho is where it all started for me and gave me the opportunity to fall in love with the sport of motor racing and enabled me to make an occupation out of it," said Davey. "I still have a place in Idaho. I love going there."
Hamilton spends time in the offseason back in the Gem State and even finds time to turn a few laps over at the Meridian Speedway.
Since returning to the sports after a horrific accident, Davey has spent most of his time competitively racing at the Indianapolis Motorspeedway. So its a place that is nearly as close to his heart as his home state of Idaho and his home state is always on his mind when he takes the track there.
My whole family still lives in Idaho and representing [the state] is good for me and hopefully I can make everybody proud on Sunday."
Hamilton qualified 15th for Sundays race.
The Indy 500 begins at 10 a.m. Mountain Time, Sunday morning.
