Beckner promoted to Boise State associate head coach

Boise State basketball assistant coach Phil Beckner has been promoted to associate head coach

BOISE -- Boise State head coach Leon Rice announced the promotion of assistant coach Phil Beckner to associate head coach Tuesday.

Beckner’s first season on the Boise State staff was this past season, leading the Bronco’s skill development, scouting reports, as well as playing a huge role in the team’s offensive game plans.  He was incredibly valuable in the development and elevation of Chandler Hutchison becoming one of the top players in the Mountain West Conference.  Beckner helped the junior elevate his scoring average by over 12 points per game last season.

In a statement, Leon Rice said “Phil is a rising star in the coaching profession. He is ready for and has earned an increased leadership responsibility within our program.”

Prior to last season, Beckner spent one year as an assistant coach at Nebraska.  Before that, he spent one year as an assistant with the Oklahoma City Blue (NBA D-league) and seven seasons at Weber State.  While at Weber State, Beckner played a huge role in the development and success of former Wildcats guard Damian Lillard, now an All-NBA player with the Portland Trailblazers.
