EUGENE -- Former Boise State discus thrower Jared Rome qualified for the 2012 London Olympics at the USA Track and Field Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene on Thursday night.
After fouling on his second, third and fourth throws, in the sixth round - on his final attempt - Rome moved into second place with a toss of 207' 10" securing his Olympic fate.
Rome - who qualified for the 2004 Games in Athens - missed out on the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Despite being ranked first in the US and fourth in the world, Rome finished in 11th place.
Joining the Boise State school-record holder in the discus throw are Lance Brooks - who won the trial with a throw of 213' 9" - and Jason Young.
