BOISE--  Scottish golfer Russell Knox knocked down eight birdies and two eagles on his way to record-low 59 in round two of the Albertsons Boise Open on Friday.  Knox became just the fifth man on the Web.com Tour to shoot a 59 in a single round.

Knox shot a 30 on the back nine, and followed that up with a 29 on the front nine on his way to breaking the course record.

His fantastic day dropped his tournament score to -14, in sole possession of first place.

Of the local golfers playing in the Boise Open, former Boise State Bronco Troy Merritt was the only to make the cut.  His seven under on the day brought his tournament total to -6.

Meridian golfer Joe Panzeri had a chance to birdie his final hole to make the cut, but his bunker shot went streaking by the hole.  He would bogey the hole and finish his tournament at -4.

“It was alright, it was a good shot,” Panzeri said following his round.  “It was more frustrating, the birdie putt missed on sixteen after hitting a good shot in there.  It was like six feet, and I missed it. But, all in all, I feel pretty good about it.  Kind of a bummer not to make the putts when I needed to.  But at the same time, I'll take a lot of positives, being that I hit the ball well.”

The Albertsons Boise Open will continue at Hillcrest Country Club through Sunday.
