CASCADE-- Some of the best in the world are headed to the Gem State to compete in kayaking. This weekend, the freestyle kayaking national championship will be held at Kelly's Whitewater Park in Cascade.
The event kicks off Saturday morning and runs through Sunday. It won't just feature the sport of kayaking. A free concert by local favorites Muzzie and Billy Braun is planned, as well as a fireworks show.
That will go along with the competition, which will bring in over 60 kayakers, some of which being competitors on the world stage.
"We have all the top teams from the different manufacturers here," said two-time national champion and KWP director Devon Barker-Hicks. "Many of these people are the top athletes at the World Championship as well. So it's very exciting to have such a strong showing here. In addition, everybody is just really behind us to do the bid for the World Championship in 2017 at Kelly's Whitewater Park."
The action kicks off at KWP at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and runs through Sunday at 5 p.m.
