BOISE-- The Boise Hawks took a one game lead in the best-of three Northwest League South Divisional Series against Salem-Keizer on Tuesday, beating the Volcanoes, 3-0.
Paul Blackburn was a force to be reckoned with on the mound, pitching seven innings of shutout ball. The starter only allowed two hits, and struck out eight batters in the win. Zack Godley pitched three innings without allowing a run en route to the save.
Offensively, the Hawks got timely hits in the first inning when Danny Lockhart ripped a line drive to right field, scoring Kevin Encarnacion to take 1-0 lead. Lockhart crossed home plate one the very next batter thanks to a Yasiel Balaguert sacrifice fly to right field.
The Hawks added an insurance run in the seventh inning on a Balaguert RBI single to left field.
The victory gives Boise a one game lead in the best-of-three series. The Hawks will look to advance to the Northwest League championship on Wednesday when they face the Volcanoes at Salem-Keizer.
