BOISE-- The Idaho Steelheads couldn't close out the calendar year on a high note, falling to Las Vegas 5-2 on Saturday despite battling back from a two goal deficit. The loss is the second straight for the Steelheads.
The Wranglers opened the scoring in the first period when forward Ryan Weston found a rebound in the slot and slipped a shot past Idaho goal tender Jerry Kuhn. Las Vegas added another score to open up the second period, but saw that lead quickly disappear thanks to a spirited Steelhead attack.
Aaron Lewadniuk got his team on the board first when he corralled a rebound and ripped a wrist shot past Joe Fallon for a power play goal.
The Steelheads evened the score moments later on a fast break started by Jacob Cepis. The forward advanced the puck into Wrangler ice, then reversed his course and passed it off to teammate Derek LeBlanc who beat Fallon with another wrister.
That was all the offense Idaho could muster though, as Las Vegas scored three unanswered goals to take the win.
Idaho will be back at home on Friday hosting Ontario.
