BOISE-- The Idaho Steelheads bounced back from a one-goal loss to Stockton on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over the Thunder on Friday. Bryan Hince 22 of 23 Thunder shots in the victory.
The Steelheads lit the lamp first when defenseman Derek Matheson found a rebound in the crease and fired a one-timer into the back of the net to go up 1-0 in the first period. Joe Pereira gave the home team a little more breathing room in the second period when he tried to backhand a pass through the crease. The puck deflected off of a Stockton player and bounced into the net past an unsuspecting Olivier Roy.
The Thunder kept the game interesting with a goal in the third period. But Hince answered the call, and stopped the remaining ten shots on goal to secure the victory.
The Steelheads will host the Thunder again Saturday night in the final game of the regular season.
Prior to the game, CenturyLink Arena will open its doors for the 11th Annual Guns and Hoses charity hockey game. The event features teams made up of local law enforcement personnel and firefighters. The event is free to the public, and donations will be accepted to benefit the Idaho Fallen Firefighters foundation and the Idaho Peace Officer Memorial. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. with the puck set to drop at 1 p.m.
