BOISE-- The Idaho Steelheads found the net early and often Saturday night, bouncing back to hand the defending Kelly Cup champion Alaska Aces a 5-1 loss.
The Steelheads, coming off a loss to the Aces on Friday, lit the lamp first at the nine minute mark when David Fredriksson found the net. Idaho added to the lead in the first with a Aaron Lewicki rebound goal and then a short-handed goal from Derek LeBlanc.
The Steelheads momentum continued early in the second period when Stephen Schultz scored on a wrist shot to put the home team up 4-0 just 22 seconds into the middle frame. Jacob Cepis added the fifth and final goal in the second on another short-handed goal.
The Steelheads will now hit the road for a five-game trip starting on Tuesday at Colorado.
