POCATELLO -- The Winter Olympic Games may be going on in Vancouver, but Pocatello was a hot spot the past three days for athletes as well.
Nearly 2,000 athletes from across the U.S. and Canada gathered at the Holt Arena for the 32nd Annual Simplot Games.
Organizers for the games pride themselves on what some consider the nation's premier high school indoor track and field event.
Local athletes claimed gold in five events this year. Senior Kasen Covington of Boise leaped 23 feet 6 inches in the triple jump and won the long jump as well. We are told by the games that Covington is the number one rated triple jumper in the nation.
Chase Caulkins, a senior from Hailey, won the 3200-meter run.
In the 4x200 relay race, YMCA Team Idaho claimed victory in the girl's race while Pocatello's Indian Track club came out victorious in the boy's race.
The Simplot Games started on Thursday and concluded on Saturday.
