BOISE -- The Western Athletic Conference is using a Boise public relations firm to help push the Broncos into a big-money BCS Bowl game.

WAC Commissioner Karl Benson says Boise State is a top 10 team and he thinks they deserve a place in the BCS.

"They dominated the WAC and have made a name for themselves nationally," said Benson.

The Boise PR firm is Scott Peyron & Associates.

The firm will help promote the team as a legitimate participant in a BCS Bowl should they end the season undefeated.

Benson wouldn't say how much they're paying the firm, but did say the money is coming out of the WAC's operating budget for marketing.

"(This is) an attempt to show the media that Boise State, if they win out and maintain their current poll positions, they'd be worthy in one of the BCS games," said Benson.

Currently the Broncos are ranked 7th and Texas Christian University (TCU) is ranked 6th in the BCS poll.

You probably remember last season, the Broncos were undefeated and ranked number 9 in the BCS rankings, but since Utah was ranked ahead of them, Utah earned the BCS bowl spot.

If both TCU and BSU remain undefeated only the highest-ranked team is guaranteed a BCS berth and the other would be available for an at-large bid according to BCS rules.

"(We want) to show what Boise State has accomplished over the course of the last six years. It certainly would warrant selection in the at-large pool," said Benson.

Doug Cole with Scott Peyron & Associates says their job will be to keep in touch with local and nation media outlets.

Cole says they'll be providing statistics and helping to tell the story the WAC wants heard.

Cole and Benson say in no way are the lobbying pollsters.

They say they're simply bringing attention to how Boise State has dominated this season and in the past.

"In the last six years, again speculating that they would go undefeated this year, it would be the fourth time Boise State has gone undefeated, which is what no other school in the country can claim," said Benson.

Benson says Boise State has drawn national interest and they've cemented their creditability not only on the field but with a strong fan following and high television ratings.

The WAC did do something similar in 2007 to help Hawaii gain a bowl bid.

Hawaii went undefeated that year and they ended up being selected by the Sugar Bowl.

BSU athletic director Gene Bleymaier and BSU head football coach Chris Petersen were not available to comment.

DENVER – WAC Commissioner Karl Benson today announced the suspension of WAC football replay official Michael Goshima. Goshima was in the replay booth for last Saturday’s game in Boise between San Jose State and Boise State.

The suspension was based on a play where a runner was ruled short of a first down and was confirmed by the replay booth after a review. After further inspection, the runner clearly made the first down and the call should have been reversed.

“The WAC expects the same type of performance from our instant replays officials as we do from the on field officials,” said Benson. “And while errors are going to occur – both on the field and in the replay booth – when they do, there must be accountability. Instant replay is used to ‘get it right’ on the field and in this case the official had a chance to reverse a call at a very critical time in the game and did not. Thus, he will be suspended for his next assignment.”

Goshima will receive a one-game suspension that will go into effect this weekend.

BOISE, Idaho – Kellen Moore threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another as No. 7 Boise State coasted by San Jose State Saturday, the Broncos eighth straight victory.

Boise State (8-0, 3-0 Western Athletic Conference) also got plenty of help from its defense, which held the Spartans (1-6, 0-3) to 223 total yards and forced two turnovers that led to touchdowns.

In the last minute of the first half, the Broncos recovered a fumble deep in Spartans territory and scored four plays later on a 1-yard dive by Moore to go up 24-7 at the half. Early in the third quarter, cornerback Kyle Wilson picked off a pass and returned it 27 yards to put Boise State up 38-7.

Moore, the nation's most efficient passer coming into the game, was 21 of 33 before heading to the sidelines at the start of the fourth quarter. His three TD passes gave him 24 this season. His first TD pass was a 61-yarder to younger brother Kirby Moore that put the Broncos up 7-0 in the first quarter.

The Broncos rolled up 430 total yards, but struggled most of the game to run the ball against a defense that was giving up 259 yards per game on the ground.

The Broncos, averaging 190 yards per game, were held to 140 yards, but the bulk of those came late with the game out of reach. Doug Martin led the Broncos with 63 yards, and he scored the game's final touchdown on a 36-yard dash late in the fourth quarter.

The Spartan run defense was a lone bright spot for a team that has lost 10 straight to the Broncos.

Jordan LaSecla was 10 of 20 for just 79 yards and one touchdown, a 39-yarder to Marquis Avery that tied the game 7-7 in the first quarter.

LaSecla was ineffective the rest of the way and ultimately replaced in the second half by Kyle Reed, last season's starter. Reed was 6 of 12 for 52 yards, and he rushed six times for 28 yards.

The turning point came in the final minute of the first half.

With 1'35 left in the half, Moore led the Broncos on a six play, 45-yard scoring drive, capped with an 18-yard TD to Mitch Burroughs in the left corner of the end zone.

One play after the ensuing kick, Spartan running back LaMon Muldrow fumbled after being hit by safety Jason Robinson, who recovered the ball on the Spartan 22 with 23 seconds left. After two misfires, Moore hit Tyler Shoemaker on a 21-yard pass, then scored on a dive on the next play.

Austin Pettis led the Broncos with five catches for 63 yards and a touchdown, while Kirby Moore had four catches for 80 yards.

RUSTON, La. -- Just when Boise State looked vulnerable, Kellen Moore and the Broncos quickly reminded a national television audience why they've been unbeatable.

Moore threw for 354 yards and three touchdowns, and No. 5 Boise State survived a brief scare on the road with a 45-35 victory over upstart Louisiana Tech on Friday night.

Tech had pulled within 30-28 early in the fourth quarter on Dennis Morris' leaping catch in the corner of the end zone. The Broncos defense buckled down long enough after that for Boise State to pull away with touchdowns on consecutive drives, the second score coming on Jeremy Avery's 44-yard touchdown run.

Avery finished with 146 yards rushing, while Titus Young caught eight passes for 110 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown for Boise State (9-0, 4-0 Western Athletic Conference).

Trailing 27-7 at halftime, Tech (3-6, 2-4) made a game of it in the third quarter, starting with Josh Victorian's first career touchdown on Moore's third interception of the season. It was an ill-advised throw under pressure that hung in the air for Victorian, who raced down the sideline and cut inside Moore to cap a 75-yard return.

Boise State responded with a 15-play drive to set up Kyle Brotzman's third field goal on four tries, then Tech's offense suddenly came to life. It got its first first down in two quarters on the way to a 73-yard scoring drive capped by Ross Jenkins' 9-yard keeper around the right end to make it 30-21.

Tech's Matt Nelson then caught the Broncos by surprise with an onside kick that he recovered himself. Shortly after, Jenkins found Morris over the middle for 36 yards to the Boise State 12, setting up Jenkins' third-down pass to Morris, who leaped to catch the ball over defensive back Kyle Wilson's head.

When Brotzman missed his second field goal of the game on the Broncos' next drive, the crowd was going wild, and it appeared the Bulldogs just might upset the highest-ranked team ever to play at Joe Aillet Stadium.

Instead, Boise State put its figurative foot down, forcing a quick punt. Then Moore floated a pass down the sideline to Kyle Efaw for his second 40-yard completion of the game, setting up a 12-yard scoring pass to Austin Pettis to make it 38-28.

Soon after, Tech failed to convert a fourth-and-6 on its own 44, setting up Avery's game-clinching run to make it 45-28 with 4'52 to go. Tech managed a touchdown after that.

Moore's three TD passes gave him 27 on the season, eclipsing the 25 he had last year as a freshman.

The Broncos have scored no fewer than 45 points in each of their four WAC games this season.

Still, Boise State could have used a more dominant victory in its quest to prove it is more deserving than unbeaten Texas Christian for a Bowl Championship Series bid.

BOISE -- Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore will take substance over style any day, a fine philosophy to live by since playing in this college football outpost doesn't bring the kind of attention heaped on quarterbacks at the nation's marquee schools.

That could soon change for Moore. At the season's midway point, his statistics are good enough to match or best most of his peers.

He is not a flashy scrambler, doesn't have a cannon for an arm and is not a vocal or animated leader. But his ability to make good decisions, spread the ball to all his receivers and outwit opposing defenses are the biggest reasons the sixth-ranked Broncos are undefeated and making a case for another BCS bid.

Through seven games, Moore leads the nation with 21 touchdown passes and has just two interceptions. He's the nation's most efficient passer with a rating of 172.15 and has completed 68 percent of his throws for 1,627 yards. His 69 percent career mark is second only to Texas' Colt McCoy among active quarterbacks.

With a modesty he's shown since becoming the Broncos' starter as a redshirt freshman last season, Moore shrugs off the growing praise for his achievements on the field and the simmering chatter that his name be added to Heisman debates.

"Some people want to throw a name to this team, and if it's mine, that's exciting for the program," Moore said. "But I've got enough to deal with week in and week out. If I get caught up in myself, then it takes away from something else."

They're 7-0 headed into Saturday's matchup with San Jose State (1-5, 0-2 Western Athletic) and in position to win their second straight conference title.

Last year, Moore guided the Broncos to a 12-0 regular-season record, with the only loss coming in the Poinsettia Bowl against TCU, the team that leapfrogged Boise State in the BCS standings this week.

But don't blame Moore for the Broncos slight dip in the BCS rankings.

Last week, he threw five TDs in a 54-9 victory at Hawaii, putting together his best game of the season and helping unleash an offense that had sputtered in the red zone the last two games against lesser opponents like UC Davis and Tulsa.

Against the Warriors, Moore was 18 of 30 for 223 yards, hitting nine different receivers—including his younger brother Kirby—and managing to sidestep the rush just enough to avoid getting sacked, the fourth game without being sacked this season.

It was the kind of smart, mistake-free performance Broncos coach Chris Petersen has come to expect since making Moore the first freshman to start a season opener in school history.

Last season, the lefty threw for 3,486 yards and 25 TDs and was WAC Freshman of the Year. If there is a lasting stain on the season, though, it may have been Moore's interception in the final minutes of that 17-16 loss to TCU in the season finale.

So this season, Moore decided to focus even more on the mental and fundamental aspect of his game, vowing to make fewer mistakes and off-target throws.

In many ways, the extra attention to detail has paid dividends for a quarterback Petersen acknowledges is the sometimes one step ahead of the coaches on the field and in the film room.

"Its interesting from the sideline, because when I think he missed something or could have gone somewhere else with a throw, you put the tape on and you see why he did what he did. And coach is wrong again," said Petersen, who helps keep Moore focused on football by limiting his media access to once every other week.

"That is probably the most impressive thing about him, the way he continues to play at a pretty high level."

Moore, who threw for 4,269 yards and 67 touchdowns as a high school senior in his father's pass-happy, spread offense at Prosser, Wash., doesn't get to air it out like he once did because the Broncos have such a potent running game. Led by the tandem of Jeremy Avery and Doug Martin, the Broncos are averaging 192 yards a game on the ground and 5 yards per carry.

With that kind of rushing attack, Moore has had just three games this season with 30 or more passing attempts. So far, he's managed to make the most of his chances by focusing even more on improving his practice and game prep habits.

"All off season we were focusing on being more efficient, being more accurate with the ball and making better decisions," Moore said. "And I think that definitely translates to the games, working on details a little more."

BOISE -- It is the biggest annual sporting event in Idaho -- the Boise State versus Idaho football game.

And this year, there will be a nationwide audience for the matchup, but there won't be a statewide one.

The decision came down today that ESPNU will broadcast the Boise State-Idaho game on Nov. 14, and it won't be shown here on 7 Sports, as originally scheduled.

KTVB President and GM Doug Armstrong issued this statement'

“The Idaho / Boise State game is a huge rivalry and should be available to all Idahoans. Unfortunately ESPNU reaches only 40% of television homes, and the WAC television contract gives ESPN the right to take this game. We told ESPN that we would air the ESPNU version on KTVB for free, and we even offered to produce it for ESPN free of charge. We’ve done everything we can.”

Boise State was not involved in this decision. It was an option in the current agreement between the WAC and ESPN for the network to pick up one more game. They just had to give the school 12 days notice.

The upside is obvious. It's an ESPN network seen in 55 million households across the nation, and national exposure has been key to growing the Bronco program over the past decade, and this is great for an up-and-coming Idaho Vandal program.

The downside is that an estimated 40 to 45 percent of households, just in the Boise market, don't get ESPNU. That number is probably bigger statewide, and all those people, for the first time in three decades, won't be able to watch the biggest rivalry in the state.

It's a fact not lost on BSU athletic director Gene Bleymaier.

"Obviously, the exposure is very beneficial. Unfortunately, it will exclude some homes locally. Which is unfortunate with this game, because that hasn't been the case in the past. But hopefully, people can make arrangements to go somewhere where they can see the game. And, or buy up the last few remaining tickets that we have," said Bleymaier.

Kickoff of the game has also been moved to 1'30 p.m.

There is an another bright spot for Bronco fans. Bleymaier said this move to ESPNU might increase the possibility that ESPN gameday comes to Boise for the Idaho game. But there are numerous schools still in the running for that.

After a 45-point victory on Saturday against Hawaii, many in Bronco Nation thought their performance would be reflected in Sunday’s newest BCS poll. That wasn't the case.

The Broncos dropped three slots in the BCS ranking to 7th.

There certainly haven't been many around Bronco Nation that are happy about the Broncos new position in the polls, especially because the Broncos were jumped by non-BCS TCU who is now in the 6th slot, one place ahead of the Broncos.

But as usual, BSU head coach Chris Petersen hasn't batted an eye at the change.

As a matter of fact, he actually has some advice for those in Bronco Nation who didn't take the new ranking very well.

"There's a lot more football to be played and you know, I think all those conversations, when you really talking about what matters, I mean in 5-6 weeks we can have those conversations. Until then I think it's just a lot of drama a lot of people like to get caught up in," said Petersen.

It’s almost certain Petersen won't get caught up in the fact that for the third time in four years he's been named to the Bear Bryant coach of the year watch list.

Petersen won the award back in 2006 following the Broncos Fiesta Bowl victory.

Idaho head coach Robb Akey is also one of the 20 finalists for the award.

Meanwhile, Boise State sophomore QB Kellen Moore was named a Davey O’Brien Award semi-finalist. That award goes to the nation’s top quarterback. He is one of 15 QBs being considered for the award.

Kellen Moore threw five touchdowns, three of them to Titus Young and Skyview High's Matt Kaiserman ran for 122 yards.

Moore threw a career-best five touchdown passes and No. 6 Boise State forced turnover after turnover in a dominating 54-9 victory over Hawaii on Saturday night to remain unbeaten and in the BCS race.

"We're really proud of how we came out here. It's a totally different environment than we are used to," Moore said. "If you relax too much, you get into the vacation atmosphere. I think we focused well."

The Broncos (7-0, 2-0 Western Athletic Conference) looked confident and sharp, building a 44-0 lead by the third quarter behind their stifling defense. For the night, the Broncos forced six turnovers that led to 30 points.

"Tons of credit to our defense," Boise State coach Chris Petersen said. "If we play that way on defense, we will be hard to stop."

Jeron Johnson intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble on Hawaii's opening drive that ignited Boise State's scoring performance.

"You get one, you want to get another one," Johnson said. "You get two, you want to get another. That's how it was all night. We just kept fighting, trying to get the ball."

Boise State, which didn't have a single takeaway in its two previous games, had everything working in its way, from trick plays to fourth-down conversions.

Moore, who leads the nation in passing efficiency, was 18 of 30 for 223 yards. Four of his scoring throws came in the first half. He has thrown 21 TD passes with just two interceptions on the season.

Despite the big lead, Moore played the entire game.

Petersen said backup Mike Coughlin got dinged up his only play, an 8-yard run, so he was forced to play Moore the whole game.

Titus Young had eight catches for 115 yards and three TDs, including a 48-yarder in the third quarter. After the catch, Young flashed the hang loose "shaka" sign in front of the cheering Broncos fans, which quickly drew a flag and caught the ire of his coaches.

Meanwhile, the year continued to get uglier for the injury-plauged Warriors (2-5, 0-4), who have lost five straight for the first time since 1998. The 45-point loss was Hawaii's worst since losing by 46 to top-ranked Southern California to open the 2005 season.

"Things piled on us early," Hawaii coach Greg McMackin said.

Bryant Moniz, who started the season as the third-string quarterback, made his third straight start for Hawaii and sustained a concussion near the end of the opening quarter. He was replaced by Shane Austin, who was ineffective and threw three interceptions and one late scoring pass.

"We were down to our fourth quarterback," McMackin said. "I thought he came in and did as good as he could."

Boise State scored 24 points in the second quarter, including 17 off three Hawaii turnovers. The scoring took the steam out of the Warriors on a muggy night at Aloha Stadium, where the Broncos are 4-4.

They had lost two previous trips to Honolulu. With the 2007 WAC title on the line, the Broncos lost to Hawaii 39-27 to close the regular season and ended the year losing to East Carolina in the Hawaii Bowl.

"We needed a big victory for ourselves," Moore said. "We certainly feel we didn't play up to our potential the last two weeks, and I think we can feel pretty good about our performance and get at it on both sides of the ball and we're excited about that."

Greg Salas was stripped by Winston Venable while fighting for some extra yards and Brand Thompson recovered on the Hawaii 14. Moore threw a dart to Austin Pettis on the next play, putting Boise State up 17-0.

Austin finally got the Warriors moving in the quarter, driving all the way to the Broncos 14. But his pass was snatched away in the end zone by Johnson. Boise State scored five plays later on Moore's 24-yard TD pass to Young for a 24-0 lead. On the 80-yard drive, Pettis showed his versatility, completing a 28-yard pass to Kyle Efaw.

Young also hauled in a 10-yard TD pass to put Boise State up 31-0 with 1'22 left in the half. And the Broncos weren't done yet.

Hunter White intercepted a pass by Austin, leading to Kyle Brotzman's 28-yard field goal that gave the Broncos a 34-0 lead at halftime.

Brotzman also had a career night with four field goals.

Boise State also used trickery a few times. After failing to convert on its first three third-down attempts, Boise State went for it on fourth-and-2 from the Hawaii 35 and scored.

With a defender charging at him, Moore dumped a play-action pass to Tyler Shoemaker who ran virtually untouched into the end zone to put Boise State up 10-0.

The Broncos converted just three of their 13 third-down attempts, but were perfect on three fourth-down tries.

HONOLULU -- Boise State has emerged as one of the winningest programs in college football and has been near-perfect in the Western Athletic Conference. When it comes to playing on the islands, however, the Broncos are still trying to reach .500.

You can watch the game live Saturday night on Channel 7. Kick off is at 9 p.m. MDT.

Boise State is 3-4 at Aloha Stadium and came up empty the last two visits. With the 2007 WAC title on the line, the Broncos lost to Hawaii 39-27 to close the regular season and ended the year losing to East Carolina in the Hawaii Bowl.

“Without question, it’s the most difficult trip we have to make,” Broncos coach Chris Petersen said. “There’s so many things in terms of preparation, trying to get all the logistics right, keeping the kids focused and all those things, and it’s not easy for anyone to do.”

No. 6 Boise State (6-0, 1-0 WAC), ranked fourth in the initial BCS standings, should have an easier time Saturday night against the injury-plagued Warriors (2-4, 0-3), who are hoping to turn their season around and avoid losing five straight for the first time since 1998.

In a tropical paradise where the beaches and bikinis in Waikiki can be big distractions, the Broncos are putting on the blinders for their BCS run.

“Tough place for us to go. Tough place for anybody to go play,” Petersen said. “Last couple times we’ve been there (it) hadn’t turned out so good, so we’re going to have to do a great job of really preparing our minds and getting them right and battling Hawaii, who always does a great job over there.”

The Broncos did have a few extra days of preparation. Their last game was a 28-21 victory at Tulsa on Oct. 14.

With their non-conference schedule over and the most difficult games arguably behind them, the Broncos are looking to continue their WAC dominance and win their seventh title in eight years. Boise State is 61-4 in conference since joining the WAC in 2001 and has won nine straight league games, including a 20-point home win over Hawaii last year.

After a series of convincing wins, the Broncos are coming off less-than-spectacular performances against UC Davis and Tulsa. Petersen said he doesn’t feel compelled to win a certain way or score a number of points to impress the polls.

“We’re just going to play our style and do whatever we need to do to win the game. If it’s by one point or 10 points, so be it,” Petersen said.

But not many are expecting a close game this time, even if it’s in Honolulu. Boise State is a 25-point favorite.

With their WAC run essentially over, the Warriors are clinging on to their fading postseason chances and would love nothing more than to spoil the Broncos’ quest for a perfect season.

“This is our BCS championship game,” linebacker Blaze Soares said. “You shouldn’t have to say anything. You don’t have to do a rah-rah speech to get everybody pumped up.“Yeah, they’re No. 4 (BCS) in the country, a great football team, unbelievable program. We just have to show up. If we come ready and prepared, we’re going to pull it out.”

Hawaii’s young defense needs to disrupt Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore, who leads the nation in passing efficiency and has thrown for 16 touchdowns with just two interceptions. He threw for 256 yards and three TDs against Hawaii as a freshman last year.

Boise State should be able to light up the scoreboard behind a speedy backfield of Jeremy Avery and Doug Martin and talented receiving tandem of Austin Pettis and Titus Young. Pettis has scored in all six games this season and leads the Broncos with 32 catches and seven touchdowns.

The Broncos average 38 points and 430 yards a game and the mistake-prone Warriors allow nearly 406 yards and 30 points. Hawaii is also coming off a humbling 35-23 loss at Idaho.

“I love my players. They’re great human beings and great kids,” Hawaii coach Greg McMackin said. “They’re just trying to make plays, but they’re not doing it at the right point in time. They’re guessing. We need to be more disciplined.”

Without Rodney Bradley, one of its top receivers, Hawaii will rely heavily on Greg Salas, who has 42 receptions for 791 yards and five TDs.

Bryant Moniz, who began the season as Hawaii’s third-string quarterback, will make his third start. He got the call when starter Greg Alexander had a season-ending left knee injury Sept. 30. In two starts, Moniz has passed for 643 yards and three TDs, but has had problems finishing drives.

He’s looking more comfortable with every snap and for someone who grew up just a short drive from Aloha Stadium, he’s relishing the opportunity to become a hometown hero.

“Just like I dreamed it would be, except for the win column,” Moniz said. “We just got to turn that around and it will be picture perfect.”

BOISE - Wrap your head around this - the Boise State Broncos, fresh off what many called a lackluster win at Tulsa, are 4th in the first BCS rankings of the year!

It's the highest the Broncos have ever been ranked in the BCS at any time of the year and we're just six weeks into the season.

The BCS rankings determine which college football teams play in the big money bowls at the end of the year, and even in the national championship game.

It's still probably impossible for the Broncos to get to the title game, but right now they're definitely in line for a BCS bowl berth.

They just have to keep winning.

Another key for the Broncos to getting to a BCS bowl is to stay ahead of all other non BCS teams, because only the highest-ranked squad gets the automatic bid.

The closest team to Boise State right now is TCU. The Broncos must stay ahead of the 8th ranked Frogs if they want to make it to a BCS bowl.

The last time the Broncos went to a BCS bowl was the Fiesta Bowl in 2006.

If they want to go again they need the help of the BCS rankings, the first of which came out today Sunday.

Boise State's first opponent of the year, Oregon, was getting plenty of respect - they check-in at 11th.

Three other non BCS teams with losses also make the Top 20' BYU, Houston and Utah.

The Broncos' incredible ranking is somewhat surprising, considering their close win over an unranked Tulsa team on Wednesday.

But Coach Pete said right after that game was over that the team doesn't care about point spreads and he was sure justified today.

A few more poll notes for you, Boise State is ranked 4th in the BCS, despite being ranked 5th in all components to the BCS ranking.

Some may attribute that to flaws in the BCS, but really it's because there's no unanimous number 4 team with USC pulling an 11th ranking from the computers.

The Broncos are at Hawai'i this Saturday, here on Channel 7.

And how about the Idaho Vandals? They're getting more and more national respect with 27 votes, or points, for them in the Harris poll, 8 votes from the Coaches and 4 votes from the AP.

Of course, all this poll respect for the Vandals comes after their 35-23 win over Hawai'i last night at the Kibbie Dome, where Idaho became bowl eligible thanks to more than 80 rushing yards a piece from Princeton McCarty and Demaundray Woolridge.

Woolridge scored 4 touchdowns, but McCarty says he doesn't mind letting his teammate finish off drives.

Demaundray, Princeton, and the 6-and-1 Vandals play at Nevada this coming Saturday.

TULSA, Okla. - Kellen Moore threw two short touchdown passes to Tommy Gallarda, and No. 5 Boise State survived a late scare from Tulsa to escape with a 28-21 victory Wednesday night in one of the last road tests standing between the undefeated Broncos and the BCS.

With Boise State (6-0) trailing for the first time all season, Moore was perfect on two scoring drives to put the Broncos ahead to stay.

Tulsa (4-2) got within 28-21 in the fourth quarter when G.J. Kinne and Slick Shelley connected on consecutive passes for 91 yards, including a 55-yarder for a touchdown. The Golden Hurricane had one last chance to tie it in the final 2 minutes, but Boise State forced its fourth three-and-out of the second half to ice the game.

Moore finished with 187 yards passing and three touchdown passes.

Hear from Coach Pete

Doug Martin had 112 yards on 23 carries in his second 100-yard game since moving back to offense after the Broncos lost running back D.J. Harper to a knee injury. Jeremy Avery added 73 yards as Boise State trampled Tulsa on the ground in the third quarter and then held on for the win.

Except for the two long connections between Kinne and Shelley, Boise State's defense limited the Golden Hurricane - who led the nation in total offense each of the last two seasons - to 30 yards in the second half.

Kinne missed a wide-open Charles Clay on fourth-and-6 to end Tulsa's last possession, as he rolled out of the pocket to the left. He finished with 154 yards on 14-for-27 passing.

"Our O-line got going pretty well and it would have been nice to punch it in down there for some breathing room," Boise State coach Chris Petersen said. "If our O-line is doing what they need to do we can make some plays."

Tulsa represented one of the few challenges remaining on Boise State's schedule as the Broncos move into Western Athletic Conference play. The rest of the teams on their schedule have a combined 16-21 record, and in-state rival Idaho (5-1) is the only one with a winning mark.

Post-game analysis

Petersen wouldn't look far down the schedule.

"Next week is a new challenge," he said. "We'll reload and go then."

The Golden Hurricane - playing in front of a sellout crowd of 30,000 - jumped on top early, capitalizing on a muffed punt by cornerback Kyle Wilson with some trickery on the very next play.

Kinne pitched the ball to A.J. Whitmore, the Golden Hurricane's usual wildcat quarterback, and he found speedy receiver Damaris Johnson behind the defense for a 53-yard touchdown pass.

It was the first time Boise State had trailed this season, and Moore immediately led a 68-yard scoring drive the opposite way. He hit all three of his passes for 45 yards and converted a fourth-and-1 at the 10-yard line with a sneak to set up his 8-yard scoring toss to Gallarda.

He went 6 for 6 for 62 yards on the Broncos' next drive, answering Kinne's 15-yard scoring pass to Trae Johnson with a 17-yard TD connection to Austin Pettis. It was Pettis' sixth straight game with a touchdown.

Gallarda caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Moore in the third quarter.

Rivalry renewed with Golden Hurricane

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Boise State coach Chris Petersen figures to face a steady dose BCS questions as long as his sixth-ranked Broncos stay undefeated.

Like this one' Would an unbeaten Boise State (5-0) stand a better chance of getting into the BCS championship game this year than when it had to settle for the Fiesta Bowl three seasons ago?

"That's hard to know," Petersen said. "We still have eight games left, with a huge one with Tulsa We have so much more football to be played. I believe what I tell our guys' If we take care of the things we can control and play good football, we'll be playing somewhere good against a good opponent at the end of the season."

The Broncos' task of running the table is starting to look easier, particularly after a Wednesday night trip to Tulsa (4-1) that marks the toughest road game left on their schedule. Get past the Golden Hurricane, and the rest of Boise State's opponents have a combined record of 16-21.

The WAC schedule might not be the best way to build a resume with the BCS computer rankings and poll voters, but it's been a great way for the Broncos to keep their loss column empty. They've gone undefeated in conference play five of the last seven seasons.

"Our players know that Tulsa is a heck of a team," Petersen said. "This isn't something that we're going to have to sell them at. They know about Tulsa, they know about their athletes, their coaching, their winning, all those type of things. So, we like that. We don't have to sell this at all."

For Tulsa, Boise State is something of an idol - and it all started with the Broncos' unforgettable BCS win against Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Tulsa coach Todd Graham calls the Broncos a "catalyst" that validated the top teams in conferences without an automatic BCS berth.

"Naturally, we want to win and win championships and go win BCS games and all that type of stuff," Graham said. "That's where we aspire to be, and why would you not? I guess they kind of changed that. I think a lot of people before they were able to go and do that, if you said that people would probably say, 'Whatever. That's unrealistic.' And then when they went and did it, it proved it could be done. Why in the world would you not have that as your goal?"

Graham doesn't hide his admiration for everything the Broncos do - their blue turf, their marketing plan, their recruiting strategies and their unique offensive and defensive systems. His staff met with Petersen's staff following spring practice in 2008 to share ideas and philosophies.

That respect trickles down to his players, who are trying to build on the program's first back-to-back seasons with at least 10 wins. The Golden Hurricane have never beaten a top-five team.

"It's a huge game for us. Having a top 10 team coming to our house, it's going to be a great atmosphere," nose guard Wilson Garrison said. "We've talked about Boise a lot around here, the tradition they've built in winning in and out every year with discipline and character. That's something we want to do, so it's a huge game and a huge opportunity for us."

Tulsa has fallen flat in the national spotlight lately. Arkansas foiled the Golden Hurricane's bid for the BCS last year with a 30-23 defeat that brought a halt to their 8-0 start, and Oklahoma teams ranked in the top 10 have handed them a pair of losses by a combined 107-21 margin over the past three years - including 45-0 earlier this year.

In that game, Tulsa played without two of its starting offensive linemen and lost senior free safety Charles Davis to a season-ending injury.

"We've got a chance now to go out against Boise State and say that score wasn't indicative of what it came out and get a chance to redeem ourselves," Graham said. "In my tenure here, this is the biggest game we've had at this university - especially at home."

"It's going to be a big, big night. Our guys are excited. I know they're going to play their hearts out."

?
