Flichel to take time to contemplate future

BOISE-- Now that the season has ended for the Idaho Steelheads, the organization has some time off to rest up before next season. It could be a summer full of thought and contemplation for one Steelheads player, as 36-year-old captain Marty Flichel will decide if he wants to come back for another season of hockey.

It was a painful season for Flichel, who missed three months of the season due to injury. But when he was able to take the ice, the veteran did make an impact for the Steelheads. During the ten playoff games alone, Flichel tallied two goals and five assists for a total of seven points.

Flichel has told the team that he will take a couple of months to decide what his future will be, which is fine for head coach Hardy Sauter.

It's easy to say now, oh yeah I still want to play, Sauter said. Because the hurt is still there from losing the last game. And as September rolls around, it's easy again to say yeah I want to play because that's what a hockey player does. You're just ready to go in September to get going. But, I think he's mature enough, obviously, and been through enough, that he'll take some time to make a valid decision and then we'll move forward from there, whichever way that is.

Aside from being a pretty good hockey player, Flichel also runs a landscaping business in Boise.
