CALDWELL -- The College of Idaho baseball team swept a doubleheader with Oregon Tech on Saturday at Wolfe Field, winning Game 1 7-3 and Game 2 18-10.
The Coyotes (27-11, 12-6) pounded out 32 hits on the afternoon, as catcher Jarel Lewis led the way going for 6-for-9 and seven RBI.
Below are recaps of each game.
Game 1 - College of Idaho 7, Oregon Tech 3
The Owls (15-22, 8-10) took an early 1-0 lead in the third, but it didn't last long. Tanner Hodges doubled in a run in the home half of the inning to even things up, and Jeffrey Harris followed with a two-run single to give the Yotes the lead.
In the fifth, Izaac Garsez led off with his school-record tying 9th triple of the season, and scored on a Lewis single to push the lead to 4-1. Garsez then doubled home a run in the sixth, and scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 6-1.
On the mound, pitcher Chad Yeggy worked seven-plus innings of six-hit ball, striking out six, to pick up his seventh win. He allowed a two-run homer to Ryan Hayden in the eighth, as Tech cut the lead to 7-3, but Michael Garza got the final six outs in relief to end the game. Garsez went 3-for-4 - a homerun shy of the cycle - with Lewis going 3-for-5.
Game 2 - College of Idaho, Oregon Tech 10
The College of Idaho bats dominated the second game - scoring at least one run in each of the first six innings - building a commanding 18-1 lead. Hodges got The C of I on the board in the first with his second RBI double of the day. In the second, the Yotes plated four more, two of which came off a single from Todd Griffiths. Jesse Dodd - who went 4-for-5 with three runs scored - then doubled home a run in a two-run third to extend the lead to 7-0. After a Dustin Norman RBI-single got the Owls on the board in the fourth, RBI singles from Lewis and Jeffrey Harris pushed the Coyote lead to 9-1. The C of I blew the game open in the sixth with a seven-run inning, capped by a three-run homerun by Lewis.
The two teams will close out the series with an Easter Sunday doubleheader tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Wolfe Field.
