Washington State rallies, takes down Boise State

BOISE – The Boise State women’s tennis team lost to Washington State, 5-2, on Wednesday at the Boas Tennis Center.

The Broncos started out hot, winning the doubles point.  Sonia Klamczynska and Marlena Pietzuch defeated Liudmila Vailieva and Andjela Kankaras, 8-6, at the No. 1 spot, while Sandy Vo and Morgan Basil fought off Elisabeth Fournier and Elizaveta Luzina in the No. 2 doubles match, winning 9-8 (3).

But in singles play, the Cougars evened out the team score quickly.  After picking up a quick 6-0, 6-0 win by Kankaras over Bronco Manuela Pietzuch in the No. 4 match. Musilovich followed shortly after with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Brown in the No. 6 match, putting the Cougars up 2-1 in the team standings.

Fournier followed suit defeating Klamczynska, 6-0, 7-5 in the No. 2 match, while #42 Vasilieva earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Marlena Pietzuch at the No. 1 spot to seal the team win with a 4-1 lead over Boise State.

Basil was next to earn a win, picking up the No. 5 singles win over Luzina, 7-5, 6-3, to give the Broncos their final point. Ksenia Googe earned a tough 7-6 (6), 6-3 win over Boise State’s Vo in the No. 3 match to firm up the 5-2 Cougar win.

The Broncos look ahead to a weekend in California where they will take on No. 28 St. Mary’s on Saturday in Moraga, California at 11:00 a.m. (MT). They follow up with a match against San Francisco at Golden Gate Park on Sunday in a 10:00 a.m. (MT).
