The Boise Hawks scored three runs in the ninth inning, but came up just short in a 6-4 loss to Tri-City on Tuesday night.
The visiting Hawks jumped on the board quickly in the first when Jeimer Candelario singled to left, scoring Marco Hernandez. But the Dust Devils responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs to take the lead. Tri-City added two runs in the seventh, and one more in the eighth to take a 6-1 lead going into the final frame.
But the Hawks did not go quietly into the night. Stephen Bruno got one run back on a past ball, and then Rock Shoulders doubled to center field, scoring two Hawks runners. With the tying run at the plate, Tri-City closer Andrew Brown buckled down and got three consecutive outs to secure the win.
The Hawks now return home to host Tri-City for three games.
