EUGENE--  The Boise Hawks got their season started off on the right foot Friday night, defeating Eugene, 7-0, on the road.

James Pugliese pitched a gem, throwing five innings of shutout ball on his way to the win.  Pugliese also recorded a career-high seven strikeouts.

The Hawks bats came to life for the first time this season in the top of the third inning.  With two runners on, Carlos Penalver singled to left field, scoring David Bote to take a 1-0 lead.  The Hawks scored four more runs in the inning, and took a sizable 5-0 lead into the seventh inning.

Jacob Rogers added to the lead in the top of the seventh on a lead-off solo homerun.  The Hawks added one more insurance run in the ninth to secure the 7-0 win.

The Hawks will face the Emeralds again on Saturday and Sunday.  Boise returns to Memorial Stadium on Monday for the home-opener against Salem-Keizer.
