KEIZER, Ore.-- The Boise Hawks' slow start to the season continued on Sunday night, as the minor league team fell 4-3 to Salem-Keizer on the road. The Hawks are now 0-3 on the season, and still in search of their first win.
Boise started things off right on offense when Jeimer Candelario gave the away team a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single. The Hawks made that 2-0 in the fifth when Gioskar Amaya knocked in a run. Candelario put his team up by three runs in the eighth inning on an RBI infield single.
The lead did not last, though. The Volcanoes cut the lead to one run in the bottom of the eighth inning, and then got a two more runs in the ninth to win the game in walk-off fashion.
Hawks pitcher Tayler Scott was stellar in his 2012 debut, pitching five innings of shutout ball and allowing just three hits. He struck out a career-high four batters.
Both teams will again face off on Monday night.
