GARDEN CITY -- An excited sell out crowd at Memorial Stadium saw the Boise Hawks defeat the Tri-City Dust Devils 3-2 in their home opener, Wednesday night.
The Hawks drew first blood in the second inning. Right fielder Anthony Golden started the rally by leading off with a single and Ben Klafczynski followed with a triple down the right field line to give Boise a 1-0 lead.
The game would remain that way thanks to a solid pitching performance from Benjamin Wells. In his second start of the season the righty went 4.1 innings, struck out three, and allowed only one run.
With two men on and the score tied at one in the bottom of the fifth, Hawks clean-up man Paul Hoilman came up big with two outs sending a double to the wall in right scoring Brad Zepanas and Willson Contreras to make it a 3-1 score.
That would prove to be all the Hawks would need as they held on for a 3-2 victory.
Boise is now an even 3-3 on the season and will continue its series against Tri-City on Thursday night.
