BOISE-- Despite a six-run deficit in the sixth, the Boise Hawks rallied to beat the Everett Aquasox 12-11 in the regular season finale. Boise will now move on to the post season, where they will host the Yakima Bears on Monday night.
The Hawks jumped out to three run lead early, but saw it vanish thanks to a six-run top of the fourth by Everett. The visitors added five more runs in the fifth inning to go up 11-5. But Boise chipped away at that lead, and trailed by two runs heading into the final inning.
Down two, the Hawks got an RBI single from Marco Hernandez to tie the game up. Then with bases loaded, Willson Contreras hit a hard ground ball to third base. Patrick Kivlehan made a diving stop, but his one-hop throw to home was not fielded cleanly by catcher Christian Carmichael, allowing Hernandez to score the winning run in walk-off fashion.
The Hawks will host Yakima in Game 1 of a three-game series on Monday at 6:45 p.m.
