BOISE-- The Boise Hawks got some unexpected power on Saturday night, and used it to cash in an 8-6 win over the Eugene Emeralds.
The Hawks jumped all over Eugene’s pitching staff early in the contest. Yasiel Balaguert got the scoring started in the bottom of the first when he crushed a two-run homerun over the left field wall to take a 2-0 lead. The Hawks added runs in the second and fourth innings, and re-took the lead in the sixth when they scored three runs. The Hawks added one more insurance run in the eighth when Rony Rodriguez singled to centerfield, scoring David Bote.
Normally solid this season, Boise pitchers struggled at times on Saturday. Starter Trey Lang gave up four earned runs on five hits in just two innings of work. Corbin Hoffner came in to relieve him and allowed one run in the win.
The Hawks and Emeralds wrap up the series on Sunday night. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown out at 7:15 p.m.
