EUGENE--  The Boise Hawks pitching staff was nearly perfect on Saturday night.  The Hawks only gave up one hit through eight innings, and had retired 22 straight batters going into the final frame.  But that splendid pitching was ruined with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Pinch hitter Henry Charles hammered a solo homerun to center field, lifting the Eugene Emeralds to a 1-0 win over the Hawks.

Hawks starter Paul Blackburn pitched a gem, only allowing one hit and registering eight strikeouts.  Corbin Hoffner came in to relieve him, and retired nine straight batters.

The Hawks bats, which accounted for 12 hits in a win on Friday, were not quite as hot on Saturday.  The Hawks were limited to just three hits in the loss.

Both teams will square off in the rubber match of the series on Sunday evening.
