BOISE -- It was a well deserved off day for the Boise Hawks, but still some big news coming out on Monday.
Hawks third baseman, and Cubs first round draft pick Kris Bryant has been called up, and is expected to join the Advanced Single-A Daytona Cubs Tuesday.
Bryant got the call today while he was enjoying an off-day at Roaring Springs Water Park, with some of his teammates.
For the players, an off day is a chance to rest up, or not.
"We're having fun," said Jose Rosario
After a grueling 56 games, a handful of the Hawks decided to do what many people in their teens or 20s do during the summer, just have fun.
"It's a whole lot of fun. I didn't know that they had this in Boise, I'd never been to Boise, so I didn't know what to expect. But, these days are a whole lot of fun," said Bryant.
Roaring Springs Water Park was the choice of a half dozen Hawks, most of them hailing from Latin America, and a day off is a chance to experience America outside of baseball.
"It's pretty fun because you get to hang with their teammates, and host families and host brother. It's fun because you get to know other people and other friends," said Rosario.
"A lot of them have never seen anything like this before, so they're a little overwhelmed at first. But they have the time of their life, and we're dragging them out of here at 8:00 because they have to play tomorrow, so they need to get a good night's sleep," said host mom Jeanette Kirkpatrick.
A chance to have fun in the sun, meet new people, and most of all refocus on the game that they do for a living.
"To get rid of baseball just for a minute, to refocus for another day, because tomorrow is going to be another game. You get prepared for another game and you're having fun at the same time," said Rosario.
"It's a kids game, you go out there to have fun. I've been doing that my whole life and I know that a lot of my teammates have been having fun their whole life. That's why we play baseball, it's a fun sport, and it just makes us happy," said Bryant.
The news actually came at the right time for Kris Bryant. His girlfriend was in town for the weekend, and left Tuesday, right when he is moving on.
