MOSCOW-- University of Idaho head football coach Robb Akey was all smiles following the annual Silver and Gold game on Saturday. The reason for the smiles was because his Vandals had a very productive scrimmage to close out Spring practice.

"This was the best scrimmage we had all spring," coach Robb Akey said. "I like the fact that guys on both sides of the ball were making things happen. Offensively, we made more plays. Our defense swarmed the football very well."

The Vandal offense definitely showed improvement from past scrimmages. Senior quarterback Brian Reader had a solid day, completing 11-17 passes for 93 yards. Idaho's ground attack also played a factor, with junior transfer Ryan Bass leading the way with 11 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown.

"We got better and better as time went on," said Reader.

The only downside to the scrimmage was when senior linebacker Robert Siavii went down with an injured knee. The injury is still being assessed.

The Vandals are now off until August. They open the 2011 season hosting Bowling Green State University on September 1.
