MOSCOW -- It's been a rough week for the University of Idaho football team. Less than a week after the school fired head coach Robb Akey, two players have been dismissed from the team and another suspended..
According to the university, Vandal quarterback Dominique Blackman and linebacker Conrad Scheidt were kicked off the team for violating team rules.
The Spokesman Review is reporting that Blackman was dismissed for failing a drug test for the third time. Scheidt reportedly also failed a drug test.
Blackman transferred to the U of I from Old Dominion, and was named the starter at the beginning of the season. He threw for over 1600 yards and nine touchdowns in eight games.
Meanwhile, tight end Taylor Elmo was suspended indefinitely for posting an inflammatory Twitter message criticizing Idaho athletic director Rob Spear.
Spear told The Spokesman-Review that Elmo could eventually return to the team but says it "depends on how Taylor responds."
Spear fired Robb Akey Oct. 21, a day after the Vandals lost 70-28 to Louisiana Tech and fell to 1-7.
Later that day Elmo tweeted that Spear's decision to fire Akey was in part to keep the heat off Spear. Elmo tweeted, "Fire a man to keep your own job???"
Idaho is coming off a bye week with its next game Saturday at home against San Jose State.
