ANCHORAGE, AK -- On Friday night it was all about chances to score and the Alaska Aces had more than double the opportunities of the Idaho Steelheads winning 2-1.
The Steelheads managed just 14 shots to Alaska's 34 in the loss.
Reigning ECHL player of the Month Wes Goldie opened the scoring late in the first period beating Idaho rookie goaltender Jerry Kuhn to make it a 1-0 game.
The score would stay that way until about the 12 minute mark of the third period when Mark Derlago evened the score at one, but just three minutes later Alaska would take the lead right back at 2-1.
Idaho goalie Jerry Kuhn put together another nice performance between the pipes stopping 32 of 34 Alaska shots, but the Steelheads offense was held to just a single goal for the second time in six post-season games.
Idaho hasn't won a game in the playoffs this year when they score less than three goals.
Game two between the Steelheads and Aces is Saturday night with the puck dropping at 9:15 mountain time.
