BOISE-- For the fifth time in the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs, the Idaho Steelheads went to overtime on Saturday night against the Ontario Reign. For the fourth time, the Steelheads picked up a win, beating the Reign, 2-1, and taking a three games to two lead in the best-of-seven series.
The Steelheads, coming off a 6-0 win on Friday night, came out a bit slow in Game 5. The result was the away team taking a 1-0 lead on a Kevin Estrada goal in the first period.
But Idaho answered in the second period when Adrian Foster found the back of the net to tie things at 1-1. Both teams settled into a defensive game after that, and were scoreless through the end of regulation.
In overtime, Idaho went on the attack and came up with the game-winner just over halfway through the period when Chase Schaber beat Jean-Francois Berube with a back-handed shot.
Steelheads goaltender Josh Robinson turned in a gem of a night, tallying 38 saves on 39 shots.
Game 6 of the series will be played on Tuesday night in Ontario. A win for Idaho would send the Steelheads to the Western Conference Finals.
