Loveland, CO-- The Idaho Steelheads lit the lamp five times on Sunday night, defeating Colorado, 5-3, to take a commanding three games to one lead in the opening round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
The Steelheads, riding the momentum of a one-goal win on Saturday night, got the scoring started early in the first when Tyler Gron found the back of the net to go up 1-0. Idaho followed that up moments later with an Adrian Foster goal, his second in as many nights, and the Steelheads took a 2-0 lead into first intermission.
Colorado countered with the next two goals of the contest, but Idaho scored last in the second period on an Austin Smith goal to lead 3-2 with one period to play.
Idaho added a goal from Chase Schaber and another from Gron in the third, and held off two Eagle power plays to preserve the win.
Goaltender Tyler Beskorowany was dominant between the pipes, turning away 29 of 32 shots in victory.
The Steelheads will have a chance to close out the best-of-seven series at Colorado on Tuesday night.
