BOISE-- The Idaho Steelheads again struggled to keep their opponent off the board, and dropped their eighth-straight game in a 4-2 loss to Utah on Saturday night.
The Steelheads opened the scoring up early in the first period when forward Michael Neal out-hustled a Grizzly defender to a loose puck in the Utah zone. Neal was able to secure the puck and fire a wrist shot past the goaltender to go up 1-0. But the lead didn't last long.
Utah answered just six minutes later with a short-handed goal coming off a turnover. The Grizzlies added another goal two minutes later on a redirected shot that got past Steelheads goaltender Jerry Kuhn.
The Steelheads got the game to within one goal in the third period when Tommy Lange's shot deflected off of a defender and into the net. But Utah countered with a late empty-net goal to secure the win.
With the win, Utah moved up to sixth place in the ECHL Western Conference standings in front of Idaho. The Steelheads remain at home next week, hosting Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday.
