Nampa native Davey Hamilton nearly lost his life ten years ago in an accident at the Texas Motor Speedway.
Those on the track believed Davey was going somewhere in the vicinity of 220 miles per hour when his car hit the wall that day back in 2001.
"I didn't know I had an opportunity to number one stay alive," said Hamilton. "Number two walk again and now number three be able to fulfill my dreams of becoming a racing driver again and you know I have been very fortunate."
After 20-some surgeries to his legs and six years of rehab Hamilton returned to the track at the 2007 Indy 500.
Since then Davey has raced each year at Indy and at a few other venues, but not at Texas, that is until this Saturday.
"I'm anxious. I am excited. I'm nervous," said Davey as he prepares for Saturday's race. "I'm everything above I guess to see how everything is going to play out. I am up for it. I am ready for it."
The Nampa native is hopeful his team can get a top-10 this weekend and is excited to be working with a lot of the same crew he worked with just a few weeks ago at the Indy 500.
