BOISE -- With the 2014 Olympics just around the corner, Gem State athletes from all kinds of sports are trying to fine-tune their bodies and minds to qualify for the games.

Saturday, a Meridian skier took a step in the right direction.

18 year old Alexi Micinski took first place in the women's slopestyle event at Spain's World Cup on Saturday.

"I am so excited to win this event, as it is the biggest event I have ever podiumed at," said Micinski. "Hopefully I can carry my momentum from this event to Junior Worlds next week in Valmalenco, Italy.  That would make an awesome end to my season. Making the Olympics is a long shot, but this result could certainly help me make the ultimate goal."

Micinski made the U.S. Rookie Team last year, and is an Olympic hopeful for the games in Sochi, Russia next year.
