BOISE -- Luke Shields returns to Boise following two years as an assistant on the women's team at the University of Washington.

"I want to thank Coach Patton and Boise State University for this great opportunity," Shields said. "I am extremely excited about coming back to Boise and am thrilled to work with such a legendary coach. Our competitive spirit mixed with our work ethic will lead to this program reaching new heights."

The 2008 graduate of Boise State previously served on head coach Greg Patton's staff in 2009. That season the Broncos made the NCAA Round of 16 for just the second time in program history.

Shields fills the vacancy created by his brother, Clancy.

"I lost one of the greatest assistant coaches in the universe and I get the person he was cloned from, his older brother Luke who taught him everything he knew," Patton said.

Clancy was an assistant at Boise State from 2011-13. He accepted the head coaching position at Utah State in May.
