BOISE -- The 2009 NBA Development League draft is in the books and the Idaho Stampede made some great picks despite having the 2nd to last (15th) choice in the opening round. The Stampede chose former University of Goergia Bulldog and rookie Sundaita Gaines with their first choice.
The 6-1, 195 pound guard spent last season in Italy with NGC Cantu, after averaging 13.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. During his tenure with DePaul, Gaines played in 123 games, starting in every contest. In the second round, Idaho selected Dar Tucker from DePaul. Tucker was named to the Big East All-Freshman team and ranks 13th all-time in school history with 108 three pointers. During the 2008-09 season he led the team in scoring, averaging 18.5 points per game.
Idaho took Dar Tucker with their 2nd choice, the rest of their choices were, forward Delonte Holland (3rd rd., 46th overall), forward T.J. Cummings (4th rd., 49th overall), forward J.C. Mathis (5th rd., 78th overall), guard Mike Gamsey (6th rd., 81st overall), center Bryson McKenzie (7th rd., 110th overall), and guard Vince Oliver (8th rd., 113th overall).
The eight players selected by the Stampede in the 2009 NBA Development League Draft will join the seven players already making the trip to Boise for training camp, including returning players from the 2008-09 squad, guard Lanny Smith, forward Roberto Bergersen, and forward Mildon Ambres. Former Stampede center Jeff Graves is also invited to camp as an allocated player as well as training camp tryout players guard John Vaughan, forward Emmanuel Jones, and center Ray Schafer.
