BOISE-- The Boise Hawks saw a three-run lead slip away in the sixth inning, and ended up falling 5-4 to the Yakima Bears in Game 1 of the Northwest League Playoffs on Monday night.
Trailing by one in the fourth, the Hawks took the lead on a bases loaded, two-out grand slam by Rock Shoulders. But the 4-1 lead did not hold up.
The Bears tied the game up on in the sixth inning, and then scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth when Kevin Medrano hit an RBI double to left field.
The Hawks had a runner in scoring position in the bottom half of the inning, but failed to plate the tying run.
The loss puts the Hawks down 1-0 in the best-of-three series. Game 2 will be played in Yakima on Tuesday night.
