BOISE--  Boise State freshman guard Anthony Drmic was selected to play on the Australian Boomers squad on Tuesday.  The team is the first step to making the Australian Olympic team.

The 25-man Boomers squad will be cut down to 12 people, and that team will represent Australia in the 2012 Olympic Games in London in late July.

“It’s exciting that Anthony has an opportunity to represent his nation in the Olympics,” Boise State head coach Leon Rice said. “It’s an honor for our program to have one of our players represent Boise State and his country at the pinnacle of international competition.”

The process will begin in Perth, Australia, June 3, with the first of three camps.

“We have identified these players, worked with these players and watched their growth over the past four years,” Boomers coach, and San Antonio Spurs assistant coach, Brett Brown said. “The large majority of this squad has participated in several camps, tours and world events during my time as coach, and now each of them has an opportunity to take it one final step and represent Australia at the London 2012 Olympic Games."
