BOISE -- Former Bishop Kelly star Cody Hawkins is trying to follow in his father's footsteps.

After playing at Colorado and in the Canadian Football League, Hawkins is now going to be a coach.

His father, Dan Hawkins, was the head coach at Boise State and Colorado.

Cody found an opening on the Internet for a graduate coaching position at Ohio State.

He had head coach Urban Meyer's contact information, applied for the job, and started on Monday.

He will serve as an offensive graduate assistant, working primarily with wide receivers and quarterbacks.

He calls this the ideal situation to begin his coaching career.

Cody told KTVB that he was offered the same position at Boise State two years ago, but he wasn't ready to quit his career in the CFL.
