MOSCOW-- The Idaho Vandals kicked off Spring camp last week, and will be practicing steadily for the next four weeks. Idaho is coming off of a two win season last year, and head coach Robb Akey wants his team to forget about that. His theme this Spring is all about moving on.
"We need to carry ourselves a certain way. That was then, this is now, this is a new team," Akey said. "I want to see hipping or hopping, and see them jumping around and getting after it out here. I know they're excited to be on the field though, so it's a good time."
One of the main focuses of Spring practices is the competition going on for the starting quarterback position. Akey said that the starting job will likely go to juniors Taylor Davis or Dominique Blackman. Davis started three games for the Vandals last year, and was 28-62, passing for 234 yards. He threw just one touchdown to four interceptions.
Blackman is a transfer that was forced to sit out a season due to NCAA transfer rules. In 2009 while playing for Los Angeles Harbor College, he was 264-417 passing the ball, and threw for 35 touchdowns.
