BOISE -- Ever since Jay Ajayi's second carry at Boise State, he's been turning heads.
In that 2012 game against New Mexico, Ajayi sprinted for a 71 yard carry and went from a third string runningback to one of the most hyped athletes in Bronco football history.
Having taken over the starting duties this fall, Ajayi has lived up to the high expections. In fact, last week against Colorado State, the Texas native went over 1,000 yards rushing on the season.
As a result, he continues an impressive run by BSU backs. Since 2009, the Bronco have had a guy reach that milestone number each year.
Ajayi says he's well aware of the elite company he's keeping.
"All those guys are beasts -- Doug (Martin), D.J. (Harper), Ian (Johnson), Jeremy (Avery) -- they were all great running backs," said Ajayi "(There's) a great tradition of running backs at Boise State, so for me to be able to continue that with another thousand yard season for this school, I'm just happy to be able to do that."
With three to four game left in the season, depending whether the Broncos make the Mountain West Championship Game, Ajayi is currently on pace to crack 1,500 yards.
The only BSU players with more yards in a single season are Ian Johnson and Brock Forsey.
