Kerry: 'We can do better, and we will'

BOSTON – John Kerry appealed for support Thursday night in "the most important election of our lifetime," vowing to "never mislead us into war" and to improve jobs and health care for middle-class Americans. Culminating his hometown's four-day celebration of his life and candidacy, Mr. Kerry accepted the Democratic nomination in a high-stakes 45-minute speech aimed at the small slice of undecided voters. It mixed details of his background as a decorated Vietnam War hero with sharp challenges to President Bush's record on domestic and international issues.
