BOISE -- A 40-year-old Boise man charged in the 1998, cold-case murder of a Boise woman has pleaded not guilty to the charge of first-degree murder.

Convicted child molester Patrick Zacharias is accused of raping then killing Kay Lynn Jackson more than 15 years ago.

Jackson was just 22-years-old when her body was found on the Greenbelt in April of 1998. She was killed while walking to church on Palm Sunday.

Zacharias was charged with Jackson's murder on May 1, 2013. He was already serving a life prison sentence for lewd conduct with a minor.

An Ada County judge entered Zacharias' not-guilty plea Tuesday morning. Afterward, county prosecutors asked for another extension to decide whether they'll seek the death penalty in his case. They now have until October to make that decision.

His trial is set for February 26, 2014.
