BOISE – A Nevada pilot has died after his small plane struck a transmission line in the Owyhee Canyon Sunday morning. The crash happened near the Idaho-Oregon border.
Sgt. Rich Harriman with the Malheur County Sheriff's Office says the crash victim is 52-year-old Edward Wilson Claugus from Incline Village, Nevada.
Claugus was flying a 300LT fixed-wing, single-engine aircraft about two miles below Owyhee Dam when it appears the plane's prop struck the transmission line, causing it to crash. Claugus was the only person on board.
Harriman says according to family members, Claugus was an experienced pilot and had owned this latest plane for about a year. He was in the area recreating and had taken off from the Ontario Airport prior to the crash.
The FAA was on scene Monday investigating.
