DRIGGS  -- An eastern Idaho high school will keep its Redskins nickname and mascot for at least another year.

Trustees with the Teton School District 401 agreed earlier this week to delay any more discussion of a name change until next spring.

In June, Superintendent Monte Woolstenhulme announced the high school in Driggs would remove all references to the Redskins name, a term some Native Americans find offensive.

But the idea sparked public outcry and online petition drives. At a public hearing in July, dozens of students, alumni and others urged school officials to reconsider.

Woolstenhulme told the Teton Valley News he's still getting feedback from both sides of the debate.

He also suggested this week that the school board appoint a broad committee to study the name change.
