BOISE -- Idaho organizers of a camp for children diagnosed with cancer say they intend to keep the program up and running amid news of funding cuts.

Officials with Camp Rainbow Gold announced recently that the American Cancer Society intended to phase out all youth camp programs and scholarships starting this year.

As a result, Camp Rainbow Gold officials say they will pursue private nonprofit status to raise money to keep the camp running.

Board Chairman of CRG Tim Tyree says he's confident the staff, families, volunteers, donors and community supporters will rally to smooth the transition.

Officials say they intend to continue all programs, including the camp that has served children and their families for years. Founded in 1984, the organization also provides college scholarships, support groups and other events.
